KI MOD PEM for quality control in PEM fuel cell technology
QuoData is pleased to be part of the KI MOD PEM project (AI-based modular mapping of the PEMFC-MEA manufacturing process for quality control of intermediate and end products). This project is supported by the Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM), a nationwide, technology- and industry-open funding program. KI MOD PEM has a duration of 2.5 years and runs until April 30, 2026. QuoData's partners in this project are the Institute for Particle Technology, the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Zentrum für BrennstoffzellenTechnik GmbH.
Background to the project
The transport sector is responsible for almost 30% of CO2 emissions in the EU. A key technology for reducing these emissions is the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEM-FC) technology, which makes it possible to use green hydrogen as a chemical energy carrier. By using hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2), chemical energy is converted into electrical energy.
However, performance and stability of PEM-FC are not yet sufficient. Further on, there is a lack of largely automated manufacturing processes for mass production and there is a lack of knowledge about process-structure-activity relationships.
Goal of the project
The aim of the KI MOD PEM project is the AI-based modeling of the relationships between components, process parameters and structural features (process-structure-activity relationships) in the manufacturing process of membrane electrode assemblies (MEA) for PEM fuel cells (PEMFC). The AI tools are to be used in product development and process control.
QuoData´s Role
QuoData contributes to the project with its extensive knowledge and expertise in Data Science, experimental design and the training, validation and application of AI methods.
